Priyadharshan Kannappan Grandmaster, Educator, and Founder of Chess Gaja Private Limited. Grandmaster Priyadharshan Kannappan is an esteemed international chess figure from India, with over 25 years of experience as a player, coach, educator, and entrepreneur. Renowned for his deep understanding of the game and its educational potential, he embodies a perfect balance of elite chess mastery, profound teaching insight, and successful entrepreneurship. With a FIDE rating of 2553 and a USCF rating of 2632, Priyadharshan has earned 11 international medals and ranked among the top 450 chess players globally. He has represented India in elite international events and served as a coach for the national teams of Brazil (2022), Mauritius and Eritrea (2024), and the Indian Sub-Junior Team (2019). As a Grandmaster and educator, he has shaped the careers of countless talents across 25+ countries, making a global impact through teaching and mentoring. As the founder of Chess Gaja, Priyadharshan has created a global academy that has taught over 5,000 students across 25+ countries. He has worked with six national champions and leads a team of 30+ dedicated coaches. An accomplished author, Priyadharshan has further contributed to global chess literature with “The Modernized Berlin Wall Defense”, published by Thinkers Publishing. Priyadharshan uniquely combines his chess expertise with advanced academic qualifications. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Lindenwood University and a Master’s degree in Arts Management and Leadership from Webster University (2016– 2018). He has worked as a Product Manager in an EdTech company, gaining valuable experience in digital learning environments and online education. Under the mentorship of former Women’s World Champion Susan Polgar, he has honed his expertise to make chess a catalyst for intellectual growth, resilience, and inclusion for future generations. In addition, Priyadharshan has conducted corporate chess tournaments, introducing the benefits of chess to corporate environments and highlighting its role in fostering strategic thinking and teamwork.
