Rita Atkins is the Secretary of the FIDE Chess in Education Commission and lead developer of FIDE’s training programs and teacher certification pathways. Rita has been instrumental in designing and delivering chess education courses worldwide. Her mission is to promote educational chess worldwide. While the benefits of using chess for academic and social skill development are widely recognized, there’s still a need for guidance. She believes it is essential to address questions such as how to train teachers, what to teach, and how to assess progress effectively. Collaborating with leading experts, she aims to make chess a valuable tool in both primary and secondary education.

Her background as a mathematics teacher and her passion for chess inspire her to explore innovative ways to teach mathematics using the chessboard and its pieces. Integrating mathematics into the enchanting realm of chess turns it from an anxiety-inducing subject into a delightful and imaginative pursuit.

She is also the Co-creator of LogiqBoard, an interactive online teaching tool for educational chess and strategy games.
